Does vlc support hdr?

Could help me out with a question about VLC media player? I try figure out whether VLC has support for HDR video playback. I know that HDR, or High Dynamic Range, is a feature that can make videos look more vibrant and lifelike, with brighter highlights and deeper shadows. But I’m not sure if VLC is capable of displaying HDR content properly. I’ve tried looking through the settings and preferences, but I couldn’t find any mention of HDR. Do you happen to know if VLC supports HDR videos, and if so, how I can enable it? I would really appreciate any information or guidance you can provide. Thank you in advance for your help!

Yes, VLC media player supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) video playback. It can play HDR10 and Dolby Vision content on compatible displays.

I believe VLC has been supporting HDR playback for a while now. According to the official VideoLAN website, VLC 3.0 and later versions have built-in support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision content. This means you can play HDR videos using VLC on HDR-capable displays without any additional setup.

Does vlc support hdr? If Yes, then how?

To enjoy HDR playback, you need to have an HDR-compatible display, such as an HDR TV or monitor, and the video file itself should be encoded with HDR metadata. VLC will automatically detect the HDR information and display the video accordingly.

I think it’s worth noting that while VLC supports HDR playback, the actual quality of the HDR experience may vary depending on your display’s capabilities and settings. Some users have reported issues with brightness or color accuracy when playing HDR content through VLC, so it’s a good idea to adjust your display settings if needed.

In my opinion, VLC’s HDR support is a great feature for users who want to enjoy high-quality video content on their compatible devices. It saves the hassle of using multiple media players for different video formats and makes the HDR playback experience more accessible to a wider audience.
